Shelli Nurcombe-Thorne – South Africa

Which trips have you been on?
Everest Base Camp, 2016
Why you had chosen and done that particular trip.
To be honest, I had never even considered it until was invited to join my cousin  on her trip But once it was on my radar screen and after some Google research and YouTube video footage from previous trips, I knew this was something I needed to do. That being said, I had many “what was I thinking?” moments leading up to the trip– it was something so completely out of character that many of my friends thought I was joking!
A few magical moments or experiences on the trip.
The first few days were the most magical for me. There is something deeply spiritual about the Himalayas– it seeps into your pores. And the beauty around each corner cannot be explained. Funnily enough, the final day before arriving at Base Camp was both the toughest and most phenomenal day for me. I will never forget it!
Biggest lesson from the trip.
That I am so much stronger than I realised. Not to mention rediscovering an adventurous spirit that used to exist pre-marriage and children. Needless to say, it’s back  – and I am planning a “bucket list” trip every year!
Next trip?
Machu Picchu in 2017 – I can’t wait!
